Solar Car Port

A unique design car port, which incorporates the ability to generate your own solar energy, has been launched by Dorset’s award-winning Renewable Energy Installation Company NGPS Limited.

Unique in design and unique to our region, NGPS car ports buck the trend of the traditional four legged structure which creates its own difficulty in terms of manoeuvring vehicles in and out.   By joining the two legs each side for added strength, NGPS positions them in a central location left and right, eliminating those parking difficulties.

The structure and fixings have been manufactured locally in Dorset, from galvanised steel, to ensure zero maintenance.  The roof, which houses the solar panels, is produced from corrugated steel and designed to enable natural rain water and air flow.  The design, structure and materials have all been carefully considered to provide a life-span of over 30 years.

The model pictured houses 9 solar panels, each providing 265 watts and a total array of 2.385 kilowatts.  This will enable the creation of 2400 kilowatt hours per year, with impressive electricity savings and an income from the government solar energy Feed in Tariff (FIT) of 20 years.  Each panel is fitted with the latest technology micro-inverter technology ‘Enphase’, which increases energy generation by 35% over the traditional single inverter system.  This technology also works well with a more limited roof area or shaded locations.

“Each car port can be made to any height or width, and any roof angle in order to maximise energy capture and electricity generation,” said NGPS Managing Director Nick Good.  “A solid, rugged structure we have already had excellent feedback from homeowners, businesses and local authority that have been looking for just this type of solution.”

Providing housing for a vehicle or vehicles, as well as a means of generating your own energy, these car ports will suit any property and overcome the issue of a roof which cannot currently house solar panels by the traditional method.  Installation can be carried out in as little as 2 days, with an Enphase warranty of 25 years and  NGPS will also take care of all feed in tariff paperwork.

Solar Car Port

We were asked if we could install a car port for a solar system. We looked at various products that were available on the market and were not keen on any of them as they were just box frames with a leg in each corner. So we sat down and designed our own and had it manufactured and galvanised by JES Machinery.

We then had the main structure installed by BPS Builders.

A week later NGPS supplied and installed nine Canadian ELPS 265 watt solar panels with Enphase micro inverters resulting in a   2.385 kW system which facing South will provide the owners with over 2400 kW hours of free power plus feed in tariff payments and export bonuses.   This is tax free and guaranteed for twenty years.

The total cost was around £9,500 fully fitted with solar which will provide a financial return of over £19,000 over the feed in contract twenty year period whilst providing some vehicular protection.

All the equipment in this carport is guaranteed for a minimum of twenty years.

By using local Dorset based companies we will be able to design and build and then install solar car ports that will be totally bespoke which can be angled to get the best solar returns possible rather than buying an off the shelf “one size fits all” imported solution.
